The schedule for the coming season is as follows:
21 September: Nikita Lukinov/RCS ensemble.The new season starts with what Nikita calls “a pair of shoes (Schus)”; the joyous, exhilarating “Trout” Quintet written by Franz Schubert when he was 22 years old and featuring a double bass instead of the more usual second violin; followed by Robert Schumann’s piano quintet, whose wife Clara (the dedicatee of the work) described it as “full of strength and freshness” and “extremely brilliant”.
19 October 2026: Ethan Loch This year’s winner of the RCS Governors Prize is Ethan Loch, a remarkable, blind from birth pianist who has been gaining a rapid, stellar reputation, “Clearly a young man of genius” (Royal Academy of Music): “(Ethan) has developed into a world class concert pianist and composer” (Edinburgh Music Review).
He will be playing a Haydn sonata, preludes by Rachmaninov and Debussy and works by Chopin as well as his own compositions.
16 November 2026: Fali Pavri is Head of Keyboard at the RCS and is Ethan’s teacher. He has performed with some of the world’s most eminent musicians including Mstislav Rostropovich, Roderick Williams and Nicola Benedetti and will be playing a selection of Indian pieces and Beethoven’s sonata 111 in the first half, followed by the superbly expressive and pianistic Fantasie by Robert Schumann in the second.
18 January 2027: Atelier Piano Trio. Winners of the Dunbar-Gerber Chamber Music Competition 2023. Classical/Romantic first half including Schubert Trio in Bb major and second-half of jazz-influenced and tango music.
22 Feb 2027: Danny Driver Having given an amazing recital of the Bach’s Goldberg Variations and Ligeti’s Musica Ricercata in 2024, Danny returns with a programme including Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations.
15 March 2027: Yuanfan Yang also returns playing a first half of “normal” pieces TBA followed by his “signature improvisations on themes and styles suggested by the audience” A great way to end the season.
Prices. While the price of individual tickets remains the same (adult £25; student £12), as the 2026/27 season will comprise 6, not 5 concerts: the season ticket price will be £120 (adult) /£60 (student).
