Named after the Baroque composer, singer, and Benedictine nun Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Chiara Trio finds their voice through exploring works by lesser known composers including Nikos Skalkottas (Greece), and Amy Beach (America New Hampshire), as well as composers from the classical cannon including Johannes Brahms and Maurice Ravel.

Founded in 2022, the Chiara Trio comprise of violinist Yik Liang Soo (Malaysia), cellist Khalil Johnson (United States), and pianist Elze Fedorcovaite (Lithuania). The members came together during their studies in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where they received masterclasses and coaching from the Fidelio Trio, David Watkin, Joseph Swensen, Maya Iwabuchi, Aaron Shorr, and Graeme McNaught.

Chiara Trio is based in Glasgow and has performed in the St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church Concert series, and the RCS Mondays at One and open day concerts. They were invited to represent the RCS in the Stirling Chamber Music Scotland Organisers event, where they performed the fiery and intense Brahms Piano No.3 in C minor. Their most recent excursion outside of Scotland includes the Apple Hill Chamber Music Festival 2023 (U.S., New Hampshire), under a full scholarship as a fellowship group where they worked with violinist and Apple Hill quartet member, Elise Kruger, and pianist, Marc Ryser.

The Chiara Trio aims to share the beauty and unique expression of the many un-represented composers of the past and present, speaking for the voices that cannot.
