So what else is on?

Tree O’Reeds

St Stephen’s Church, Friday 3rd March 2023 at 1.00pm

The trio emerged during the Covid pandemic from a strong desire to play and bring music to people by the three friends. Keeping the music alive at this time seemed more essential to the trio than ever and their musical programme, designed as “thinking outside of the box”, reflects the wish of making high quality music fun and accessible to all. Ruaridh Bakke (clarinet), Will Gold (bassoon) and Gaynor Gowman (oboe) all met during their studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Over their time at the RCS they had various opportunities of playing together in orchestra, opera and various chamber ensembles. From these experiences, the bond between the musicians got stronger and during the Covid pandemic the Tree O’Reeds was founded.

Ruaridh Bakke is a keen arranger and all three musicians enjoy show-casing the auxiliary instruments. The Trio has therefore decided to arrange traditional music as well as opera or symphonic repertoire themes using all the instruments at their disposal to offer a rich musical experience to their audience.

Outside the trio, all three musicians are active performers across Scotland and abroad performing as soloists, orchestra musicians with the main Scottish Orchestras or as chamber musicians during international festivals. All musicians are also keen tutors and teach adults and children of various levels privately or in school settings.

As the trio wishes to bring classical music to people and likes show-casing auxiliary instruments, they have arranged a variety of traditional, symphony and opera pieces for the ensemble.
