So what else is on?

Finlay Hay and Hattie McGregor

Friday 6th January 2023 at 1.00pm, St Stephen’s Church

Finlay Hay is a guitarist studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Allan Neave. He started playing the classical guitar at Portobello Music School on Saturday mornings before being scouted, aged twelve, for the Yehudi Menuhin School where he studied with Richard Wright on a scholarship from the Rolling Stones.  Finlay has performed solo and chamber recitals in venues such as Blair Castle, Queens Hall, The Foundlings Museum, Bilkent University, Canongate Kirk, St Giles Cathedral and the Menuhin Hall and has played for renowned musicians such as John Williams, Nicola Benedetti, Rene Izquierdo, Pavel Steidl and Princess Alexandra. He has been a recipient of a Eurostrings scholarship, awarded the NECGSA and in his first year at the RCS placed 3rd in the Altamira International Guitar Competition.

Hattie McGregor grew up in Rosemarkie on the Black Isle, in northern Scotland.  Hattie has performed with the Highland Youth Orchestras and National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, and studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School with cellist Bartholomew LaFollette as well as piano with Alexis White. While studying composition at the school with John Cooney, her compositions for trumpet and trombone were recorded by John Kenny and Simon Desbruslais.  Whilst at Resolis Primary School, Hattie was named ‘Highland Most Promising Talent 2015’.  She has been supported by the Agar Trust and by the Music & Dance Scheme

Finlay and Hattie met while studying at the Yehudi Menuhin School and quickly formed a partnership.  This is their second visit to play for the Inverness audience and will be a premiere performance of their new programme.
